    Real-time HSPA emulator for end-to-edge QoS evaluation in all-IP beyond 3G heterogeneous wireless networks

    This paper is aimed at presenting the real-time High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) emulator that has been developed in the framework of the AROMA project. Real-time emula- tors allow reproducing realistic scenarios to test algorithms, strategies, protocols and applications under realistic condi- tions. Therefore, real-time emulators constitute a powerful tool to evaluate the end-user's Quality of Experience (QoE), which could not be achieved by means of o -line simulations. The presented emulator is integrated in the AROMA real- time testbed, which has been developed to provide a frame- work for demonstrating the bene ts of the common radio re- source management algorithms as well as the proposed end- to-edge Quality of Service (QoS) management techniques developed for all-IP beyond 3G heterogeneous wireless net- works in the context of the AROMA project. This paper presents a qualitative description of the developed tool, em- phasizing some interesting implementation details that may result helpful in the development of similar emulation plat- forms.     Severe traumatic injury during long duration spaceflight: Light years beyond ATLS

    Traumatic injury strikes unexpectedly among the healthiest members of the human population, and has been an inevitable companion of exploration throughout history. In space flight beyond the Earth's orbit, NASA considers trauma to be the highest level of concern regarding the probable incidence versus impact on mission and health. Because of limited resources, medical care will have to focus on the conditions most likely to occur, as well as those with the most significant impact on the crew and mission. Although the relative risk of disabling injuries is significantly higher than traumatic deaths on earth, either issue would have catastrophic implications during space flight. As a result this review focuses on serious life-threatening injuries during space flight as determined by a NASA consensus conference attended by experts in all aspects of injury and space flight

    Comparison of the lipid content, fatty acid profile and sterol composition in local Italian and commercial royal jelly samples

    Royal jelly (RJ) is a beehive product that has gained a significant scientific and commercial interest due to its healthy properties. In the present study, lipid content, fatty acid profile and phytosterol amount were determined in eight local and four commercial pure RJ samples. A mixture of diethyl ether/isopropanol 50/1 (v/v) was chosen to extract fat matter from RJ. Lipid amounts ranged from 2.3 and 7.2 % and from 2.0 to 3.2 % of the fresh product in local and commercial RJ, respectively. Fourteen fatty acids and three phytosterols were identified. About 70 % of the total fatty acids consisted of (E)-10-hydroxy-2-decenoic and 10-hydroxydecanoic acid. No significant difference was observed between local and commercial samples in regards to the relative amount of individual fatty acids. Sterols were in the range 179-701 and 329-1,097 mg kg-1 of fat in local and commercial RJ, respectively. A significant difference (p 64 0.05) was observed within RJ types in regards to the 24-methylenecholesterol fraction, amounting to 77 and 67 % of identified sterols in local and commercial products, respectively. \ua9 2014 AOCS
